What should you know about the Zovirax therapeutic effects?

Zovirax is an antiviral drug, a synthetic nucleoside analogue of thymidine which highly active against Herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2, the virus that causes chicken pox and shingles (Varicella zoster); Epstein-Barr virus. Zovirax is moderately active against CMV. In case of herpes, prevents formation of new rashes elements, reduces the likelihood of skin dissemination and visceral complications, speeds up the formation of crusts, reduces pain in the acute phase of herpes zoster. • encephalitis caused by Herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2
• treatment of herpes zoster caused by the virus Varicella zoster
• generalized infection in infants caused by the virus Herpes simplex

In which cases you must be cautious or completely discontinue the drug?

• Hypersensitivity (including to valacyclovir)
• Pregnancy, lactation

Which undesirable side effects may be caused by the drug?

The Aciclovir adverse effects include:

• Anaphylactic reactions, allergic skin reactions (itching, rash, Lyell syndrome, urticaria, exudative erythema multiforme, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
• mental confusion, hallucinations, fever, headache, blurred vision, agitation, somnolence, dizziness
• leukopenia, lymphadenopathy, peripheral edema
• increased activity of liver transaminases
• gastrointestinal dysfunction (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain)
• alopecia, myalgia, paresthesia
