What should you know about the Suprax therapeutic effects?

Suprax is a 3rd generation Cephalosporin antibiotic for parenteral use. Suprax possesses a bactericidal effect, has a broad spectrum of action, including a variety of aerobic and anaerobic gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, particularly Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Suprax is eesistant to both gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms of beta-lactamase.

When is the drug prescribed?

• Bacterial infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract (pharyngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis, bronchitis)
• Bacterial infections of urinary and biliary tract
• Bacterial infections of skin and soft tissues
• otitis media, osteomyelitis, endometritis, uncomplicated gonorrhea of urethra and cervix and other infections caused by susceptible microorganisms
• Lyme disease.

In which cases you must be cautious or completely discontinue the drug?

• hypersensitivity, including to penicillins
• renal insufficiency
• colitis in medical history
• pregnancy and breastfeeding
• newborns (aged up to 6 months old)
• elderly patients (with caution)

Which undesirable side effects may be caused by the drug?

The Cefixime adverse effects include:

• allergic reactions: urticaria, skin hyperemia, skin itch, genital area itch, eosinophilia, fever, exudative erythema multiforme (including Stevens-Johnson syndrome), toxic epidermal necrolysis (Lyell syndrome)
• nervous system: headache, dizziness, tinnitus
• urogenital system: vaginitis
• urinary system: renal failure, interstitial nephritis
• digestive system: nausea, vomiting, stomatitis, diarrhea, abdominal pain, constipation, pseudomembranous enterocolitis, dysbiosis, cholestasis, cholestatic jaundice
• hemopoietic system: pancytopenia, leukopenia, neutropenia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, aplastic anemia, hemolytic anemia, hemorrhage
• laboratory values: increased activity of liver alkaline phosphatase and transaminases, hyperbilirubinemia, increased urea nitrogen, hypercreatininemia, increased prothrombin time
• Other: candidiasis, hypovitaminosis B, dyspnea
