What should you know about the Neurontin therapeutic effects?

Gabapentin is similar in structure to GABA, but its mechanism of action differs from other drugs interacting with the GABA receptors. In vitro studies of labeled gabapentin identified new peptide receptors in the brain tissue of rats, including the neocortex and hippocampus, which could explain anticonvulsant activity of gabapentin and its derivatives (structure and function of gabapentin receptors has not been fully explored)

• hypersensitivity
• with caution: pregnancy, lactation, renal insufficiency

Which undesirable side effects may be caused by the drug?

The Neurontin adverse effects include:

• cardiovascular system: symptoms of vasodilation. When used in combination with other antiepileptic drugs - increase blood pressure.
• digestive system: dyspepsia. When used in combination with other antiepileptic drugs - flatulence, anorexia, gingivitis
• locomotor system: rarely - myalgia, arthralgia. When used in combination with other antiepileptic drugs - back pain
• nervous system: drowsiness, dizziness, ataxia, nystagmus (dose-dependent), fatigue, tremor, dysarthria, increased nervous irritability. When used in combination with other antiepileptic drugs insomnia
• respiratory system: rarely - rhinitis, pharyngitis. When used in combination with other antiepileptic drugs - cough, pneumonia
• urogenital system: when used in combination with other antiepileptic drugs - decreased potency, urinary tract infection
• senses: visual disturbances (diplopia, amblyopia), tinnitus
• allergic reactions: seldom - skin rash, itching, fever, exudative erythema multiforme (including Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
• other: purpura, weight gain
