Salmeterol is a selective long-term beta-adrenoreceptors antagonist. The drug works by preventing histamine induced bronchospasm and causes long-term bronchodilatation, not less then 12 hours.
When is the drug prescribed?
The drug is administered in the following conditions:
- Long-term treatment of obstructive lung disease in bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive lung disease including chronic bronchitis and emphysema
- In prevention of symptoms caused by reversible lung obstruction
In which cases you must be cautious or completely discontinue the drug?
The drug must not be used in cases of:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the preparation components
- Age prior to 4 years
