What should you know about the Lipitor therapeutic effects?

Lipid-lowering drug of a statin group. Selective competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase. Reduces levels of cholesterol and lipoproteins in plasma. Reduces LDL formation, causes persistent increase in activity of LDL receptors.

Lipitor reliably reduces the risk of ischemic complications (including development of death from myocardial infarction) by 16%, the risk of rehospitalization for angina, accompanied by symptoms of myocardial ischemia - 26%. Non carcinogenic and non mutagenic.

When is the drug prescribed?

  • primary hypercholesterolemia (heterozygous familial and non-familial hypercholesterolemia)
  • combined (mixed) hyperlipidaemia
  • disbetalipoproteinemiya (as an adjunct to diet)
  • family endogenous hypertriglyceridemia resistant to dietary treatment
  • homozygous genetic hypercholesterolemia (as a supplement to hypolipidemic therapy)

  • laboratory values: hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia, increased serum CPK, albuminuria
