Scandal around ED drugs such as Vardenafil, Sildenafil, Tadalafil

A scandal has erupted after the statement by the Swiss competition commission regarding the well known and highly marketed drugs such as Sildenafil, Tadalafil and Vardenafil has been published.

The legal ruling of the SCC stated that the companies manufacturing the drugs are involved in a price fixing scam for the products that they manufacture.

Vardenafil - erectile dysfunction medication

The manufacturer of the erectile dysfunction medication Vardenafil has put out a statement saying that it will definitely appeal the legal ruling issued by the Swiss Competition Commission regarding the alleged price fixing scam surrounding the drugs Sildenafil, Tadalafil and Vardenafil.

The Swiss arm of Bayer vehemently denied any participation in the fixing of prices and said the price of the Vardenafil drug had been decided without any consultation with Pfizer who make Sildenafil and Eli Lilly who make Tadalafil. They specifically said that they did not "make any agreements or have any discussions" with either pharmacies who sold Vardenafil or with doctors who were prescribing it and that they therefore were completely within Swiss competition law.

The Swiss Competition Commission have fined the three erectile dysfunction drug manufacturers almost 6 million Swiss Francs after they said there was evidence that the prices had been the result of a collaboration which was detrimental to the public.

The notion is especially disturbing to the public as the price fixation was noticed in the medical field and has involved drug purchase. Pfizer the manufacturer of Sildenafil and Bayer the manufacturer of Vardenafil have already appealed to the ruling, however Eli Lily has not expressed any legal appeal on the matter. It looks like this case could drag on for years as it goes through the Swiss legal system. This case has shocked the medical establishment in the normally staid Switzerland and has made many people suspicious of large pharmaceutical companies.

Price fixing is a very serious crime in most European countries and is thought to be particularly despicable by the public when it comes to medication.
