50% of Americans can become diabetic till 2020

More than 50% of Americans may become diabetic or pre-diabetic over the next decade, if won't be accepted urgent measures, warns UnitedHealth, the largest health insurance company in US.

According to the company's report, USA risk becoming a country spending in 2020 on diabetes treatment 10% of total health expenses, about $3,4 trillion.

Essential changes in lifestyle that will help people to fight additional weight, the creation of early interventions to prevent people from development of the disease, and improved management of medication, could reduce the spendings next ten years. The intervention of society in general, can be particularly effective in fighting this epidemic, say experts from UnitedHealth. Company actively developers their own program against diabetes and hopes it will help to reduce the number of people with pre-diabetes by 3 million.

Diabetes affects nearly 27 million Americans and is one of the fastest growing diseases of the country. About 67 million have pre-diabetes, in other words can become diabetic any moment. Diabetes increases the risk of getting cardiovascular diseases including heart attacks or stroke, high blood pressure, blindness and many other serious and hard curable diseases.
