Allergy

Allergy is a condition of increased sensitivity of the living organism to specific compounds that are normally harmless for the majority of people. Allergy develops in the case of repeated affection of the allergens on the body's immune system.

The most common substances that may cause allergic reactions are: medicines, insect bites, latex, dust, food, mold spores and others.

Physiological mechanism of allergic reactions consists in the production of antibodies called immunoglobulins E that are released into the blood circulation when the foreign substance(allergen) enter the organism. Released immunoglobulin attach tightly to the specific blood cells(basophillis) and mastocytes(tissue cells). The activation of mast cells and basophills causes the release of inflammatory and allergic mediator called histamine. Histamine acts on different organs and system and causes allergic reactions.

Patients with allergic reactions usually experience the following symptoms:

  • Sneezing, nasal congestion or runny nose
  • Redness, itching of the skin and soft tissue
  • Watery and redness of the eyes
  • Coughing
  • Itching in the eyes, throat and nose

Allergy treatment usually require the application of anti allergic medications such as:

  • Antihistamines(Loratadine, Cetirizines, Fexofenadine and other)
  • Corticosteroids
  • Nasal steroids
  • Decongestants
  • Mast cell stabilizers

If you have some questions about allergy treatment you may ask our qualified pharmacists which are always glad to help you in your health problems.
